Just Back from Morocco—and Still Dreaming

by Carol Alegre

I just got back from an incredible trip to Morocco, and I still can’t believe half of it was real. I traveled with an amazing group of people, and together we explored, laughed, ate our hearts out, and shared memories I’ll be holding onto forever.

We floated silently above Marrakesh in a hot air balloon at sunrise, the sky blushing pink and gold as the city stirred awake beneath us. We crossed the mighty Atlas Mountains—winding through rugged peaks and valleys that looked painted by hand. We wandered through labyrinthine medinas, each corner revealing a mosaic of color, scent, and sound: saffron stalls, flickering lanterns, the distant call to prayer echoing against centuries-old stone.

One of the biggest highlights? Glamping in the Sahara Desert. We rode camels into the desert right as the sun was setting and again at sunrise, and the views were unreal—soft sand dunes stretching out in every direction, glowing in shades of orange and pink. It felt like we’d landed on another planet. For two nights, we stayed in these beautiful tents, had amazing meals, and sat around a fire under the stars. The sky was so clear—I've never seen that many stars in my life. It was peaceful, cozy, and just... something I’ll never forget.

Every day in Morocco felt like stepping into a painting. The food—oh, the food!—was a celebration of spice and comfort: tagines that melted in your mouth, freshly baked bread torn by hand, delicious fresh fruit, sweet mint tea poured high with flair. We tasted our way through Marrakesh, Aït Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, Fez, Meknes, Rabat, and Casablanca—each city offering its own rhythm, its own scent, its own story.

The architecture was poetry in tile and stone: towering minarets, intricate mosaics, riads with hidden courtyards blooming with jasmine and orange trees. Morocco is a country of contrasts—ancient and modern, earthy, and ornate, wild, and welcoming.

If Morocco has been whispering to your soul… listen. Let it call you. Add it to your bucket list—then move it to the top. Go soon. Go hungry for wonder. The magic is waiting.
