The journey then follows the route to the Jabbok (Zarqa) River, traditionally associated with the story of Jacob. Afterward, the group will travel to Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world, with lunch enjoyed en route. Following the guided tour of Jerash, the next stop will be Wadi al-Yabis, where travelers can see the Awda Ottoman Flour Mill and a remarkable ancient olive tree. Thursday, April 16, 2026: Petra
Today’s journey takes you through the heart of Jordan’s desert landscapes toward the breathtaking city of Petra, one of the great wonders of the ancient world. As we travel along the historic Desert Highway, the scenery shifts from wide open plains to rugged hills dotted with Bedouin tents and traces of ancient civilizations. We’ll pause along the way to admire Shobak Castle, a weathered Crusader fortress that has stood watch over these desert hills for centuries. Arriving in Wadi Musa, we’ll begin our exploration of Petra—the legendary “Rose-Red City” carved into sandstone cliffs more than 2,000 years ago. The walk through the narrow, winding Siq builds anticipation until, suddenly, the magnificent Treasury appears before you, glowing with rich hues of pink and gold. You’ll have time to wander among temples, tombs, and pathways that reveal the beauty and mystery of the Nabataean kingdom. We’ll then visit the Petra Museum to round out the day’s discoveries before settling in at the Petra Moon Resort for dinner and a peaceful evening under the desert sky. (B, D)
Friday, April 17, 2026: Wadi Aravah, Wadi Rum, Bedouin Lunch, Red Sea
After breakfast, we journey south through the striking desert landscapes of southern Jordan, where endless sand dunes and towering sandstone formations create one of the most breathtaking panoramas in the Middle East. We’ll stop at the Wadi Aravah overlook before continuing to Wadi Rum—famously known as the “Valley of the Moon.” Here, you’ll experience the stillness and beauty of this timeless desert on a one-hour camel trek, followed by a traditional Bedouin Zarb lunch cooked in the sand. During our visit, we’ll also learn about Bedouin culture and their remarkable way of life in the desert. In the afternoon, we’ll head to Aqaba, Jordan’s only coastal city, where the golden desert meets the clear blue waters of the Red Sea. A brief city tour introduces you to the area before we visit the Marine Reserve, where you’ll have the chance to snorkel among colorful coral reefs and vibrant marine life. The day concludes at the beautiful Grand Tala Bay Resort, where you can unwind by the pool or enjoy a stroll along the private beach before dinner and a restful evening by the sea.(B, L, D)
Saturday, April 18, 2026: Dead Sea, Al-Karak
Today’s journey takes us north from Aqaba through the rugged landscapes of southern Jordan toward the Dead Sea—the lowest place on earth. Along the way, we’ll stop at the Museum at the Lowest Place on Earth, which offers fascinating insights into the region’s ancient history and biblical significance. Nearby lies Lot’s Cave, traditionally believed to be the refuge of Lot and his daughters after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. The small Byzantine church built here preserves mosaics and artifacts that offer a glimpse into early Christian devotion. We’ll continue to Al-Karak, home to one of the largest and most impressive Crusader castles in the Middle East. Its massive stone walls and maze-like passageways tell stories of conquest, courage, and faith. By late afternoon, we arrive at the Dead Sea Spa and Resort, where you’ll have time to relax, take a refreshing dip, and experience the buoyant waters of the Dead Sea—a truly unique natural wonder. The evening concludes with dinner and time to rest as the sun sets over the serene desert horizon. We spend the night at the Mövenpick Amman Hotel. (B, D)
Sunday, April 19, 2026: Amman, Jabbok River, Jerash, Baptismal Site of Jesus (Bethbara or Bethany Beyond Jordan)
After an early breakfast, we begin our day traveling north through the Jordan Valley, filled with landscapes rich in biblical history. Our first stop is Madaba, often called the “City of Mosaics,” where we’ll visit St. George’s Church to see the remarkable 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land—the oldest surviving map of its kind. Nearby, a visit to a local mosaic workshop offers a glimpse into the artistry that has made this town famous for centuries. From there, we continue to Mount Nebo, where tradition holds that Moses looked out upon the Promised Land before his death. The panoramic view from this sacred mountain stretches across the Jordan River valley toward the hills of Jerusalem—a moment that inspires quiet reflection. Following a traditional buffet lunch, we descend through the high hills of the Ajloun province to the great rift valley of the Jordan River and see in the distance the city of Palms, Jericho. We will make the crossing of the Jordan close to where Joshua and the children of Israel, Elijah and Elisha, Joseph and Mary, and Jesus and His disciples crossed near Al-Mughtas or “Bethany beyond the Jordan”, the probable site of Bethbara where the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist occurred. We will reminisce those events as we visit the place of the Baptism of Jesus Christ and the translation of Elijah before we cross the King Hussein/Allenby Bridge from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the modern nation of Israel and the Palestinian Authority Territories. After crossing the border, we will pass by Jericho and through the Judaean Hill Country before continuing our journey to the Mediterranean coastal city of Hadera and our accommodations for dinner and overnight at the Hadera Resort by Jacob Hotels located with a private beach un the sea. Here we will meet the rest of the Holy Land group and, if time permits, have a brief get-acquainted meeting after supper. (B, D)
